DeepMind's Hassabis Emphasizes UK's Need for Global AI Ambition

In London on March 17, DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis emphasized that Britain should capitalize on its strengths to shape the global deployment of artificial intelligence. He highlighted the country's leading universities and talent pool as positioning it at the forefront of technology.

Addressing the importance of being proactive in this field, Hassabis stressed the economic and geopolitical significance of influencing the application of these technologies globally.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently mentioned collaborative efforts with the United States focused on advanced technology within an economic deal. Likewise, Oracle revealed plans to invest $5 billion in Britain over the next five years to cater to the increasing demand for its cloud services, contributing to the country's AI innovation objectives.

Hassabis also advocated for the establishment of international standards regarding the use of copyrighted material in developing AI models, noting the global reach and utilization of such models.

During a Google AI event, Google Cloud introduced new products, such as extending UK data residency for Google Agentspace and incorporating the Chirp 3 audio generation model, which features human-like intonation, into its Vertex AI platform on Google Cloud starting next week.
