Decoding the Incident: How a Jet Flipped Upside Down on a Toronto Runway with Everyone Surviving

Investigators are currently examining the causes of a unique plane crash at Canada's largest airport on Monday. A regional jet flipped upside down during windy weather upon landing, resulting in 21 of the 80 individuals on board being hospitalized.

Video footage captured the Delta Air Lines plane, with its right wing missing and flipped upside down at Toronto's Pearson Airport. This incident, which thankfully resulted in no fatalities, quickly spread across social media.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada reported that sections of the Bombardier CRJ900 plane separated upon impact, ultimately leaving the fuselage resting off the runway's right side, inverted and facing the opposite direction.

While it's too early to determine the precise cause, aviation safety expert Anthony Brickhouse highlighted the unusual landing impact that likely led to landing gear damage and imbalance. He explained how the force and speed of the plane contributed to its change in direction.

Passengers recounted being suspended upside down in their seats post-crash. Director Mitchell Fox emphasized the importance of seatbelt use in preventing more severe injuries.

Ensuring proper evacuation procedures is crucial for survivability in air accidents, as demonstrated by the efficient evacuation following the Delta crash last year.

While incidents of jets flipping over during landing are rare, historical cases involving large aircraft like the MD-11 model were mentioned, providing context for the current investigation on the CRJ900.

Brickhouse noted the valuable accessibility of key airplane components and data for this investigation, highlighting the opportunity to piece together a comprehensive understanding of the event.
