Shipments of foreign-branded smartphones, comprising Apple Inc's iPhone, in China declined by 21% year-on-year in January, as per Reuters' calculations based on data released by a government-affiliated research firm on Monday.
Data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) indicated a drop in foreign-branded phone shipments to 4.398 million units in January from 5.542 million units the previous year.
As the leading foreign phone manufacturer in China's smartphone market, Apple's performance significantly influences the overall data on foreign-branded phone shipments within the country.
According to CAICT, total phone sales in China decreased by 14.3% to 27.24 million units in January.
