On Tuesday, Dassault Systèmes announced a collaboration with Apple to integrate Apple's Vision Pro into its 3D software, widely utilized in manufacturing, life sciences, and urban planning.
The France-based company boasts hundreds of thousands of customers using its software to design cars, airplanes, and factories, creating highly accurate "digital twins" of real-world objects and places. This fidelity allows designers and engineers to confidently make changes in the digital realm, knowing they will seamlessly translate to the physical world.
Dassault Systèmes disclosed plans to launch the "3DLive" app this summer, enabling real-time remote collaboration for engineers and designers on 3D models. Tom Acland, CEO of the firm's 3DEXCITE unit, highlighted the app's potential, such as anticipating maintenance issues well before machines are installed, thus preventing costly reconfigurations post-installation.
The partnership between Dassault Systèmes and Apple is crucial as the 3D models demand a high level of scientific accuracy, leveraging Vision Pro's sensors and computing power, similar to those in Apple's Mac computers. This precision is essential for applications like aircraft design, surpassing the standards of typical software, such as video games.
Mike Rockwell, VP of Apple's vision products group, emphasized how this collaboration offers a valuable tool for engineers and designers to optimize decision-making early in the process, potentially saving significant time, cost, and effort.
