The medical cause of death for singer Liam Payne has been confirmed as "polytrauma" during a UK inquest session following his tragic demise on 16 October. Payne fell from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

Polytrauma refers to multiple traumatic injuries sustained by an individual affecting both the body and organ systems.

The inquest took place on 17 December at Buckinghamshire Coroner's Court, where it was mentioned that determining the exact cause of the 31-year-old's death may require some time.

The inquest in the UK has been postponed until a pre-inquest review scheduled for 6 November.

Dr. Roberto Victor Cohen confirmed Payne's cause of death as "polytrauma". In the process of formal identification, assistance was provided by funeral directors in Buckinghamshire.

During the hearing, Senior Coroner Crispin Butler noted ongoing investigations in Argentina regarding the circumstances of Payne's death, explaining that obtaining crucial information may take time through the official channels.

Five individuals in Argentina are facing charges related to Payne's death. The hotel's manager, receptionist, and Payne's friend are charged with manslaughter, while two others are accused of supplying drugs.

Toxicology tests in Argentina after the incident revealed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in Payne's system. The post-mortem examination indicated the cause of death as "multiple trauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" due to the balcony fall.

Reports suggested Payne may have fallen while in a state of unconsciousness. The prosecutor's office ruled out any conscious or voluntary actions by Payne, concluding he was unaware of his actions.

Having gained fame through The X Factor and as part of One Direction in the 2010s, Payne's former bandmates and loved ones attended his funeral to pay their respects.
