On Tuesday, Colombian President Gustavo Petro revealed concerns that drug traffickers have obtained two missiles to target his plane as retaliation for his anti-drug efforts. Petro, during the inauguration of Colombia's new police director, General Carlos Fernando Triana, claimed, "You know that they want to shoot a missile at my plane," citing unspecified threats.
He emphasized the need for action against these threats without specifically identifying the groups involved. Colombia's security forces had a significant seizure of 883.8 metric tons of cocaine in 2024, a notable increase from 746.3 tons in 2023.
Cocaine and illegal gold production remain major factors fueling a long-standing armed conflict responsible for over 450,000 deaths in the country.
