Colombia's Environment Minister, Susana Muhamad, announced her resignation to President Gustavo Petro on Sunday, February 9th. In an interview with the Colombian online news program Los Danieles, Muhamad stated, "I have submitted my letter of resignation to President Gustavo Petro, and he has it in his hands. We have to see when it will go into effect."
Muhamad disclosed that she will continue in her role as president of the United Nations COP16 on biodiversity, a summit that convened representatives from 200 nations in October of last year. She elaborated that she addressed the reasons for her resignation during a recent meeting of ministers, where she objected to the appointment of Armando Benedetti to Petro's cabinet due to allegations of violence against women and influence peddling.
In response to the allegations, Benedetti refuted the claims, labeling them as false stories.
