On Thursday, the Chinese commerce ministry strongly criticized U.S. tariffs as "vile" and "unilateralist," heightening global trade tensions. Ministry spokesperson He Yongqian emphasized China's readiness to collaborate with other nations to address the challenges posed by unilateralism and trade protectionism during a regular news conference.

President Donald Trump recently threatened to impose import duties on key U.S. trading partners, including Canada and Mexico. Following negotiations, Trump postponed the implementation of 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada for 30 days after both countries committed to enhancing border enforcement.

Despite this, the 10% U.S. tariffs on Chinese products were enforced on Tuesday, accompanied by Trump's warning of potential further increases. The U.S. alleges that China is a primary source of precursor chemicals for fentanyl production in Mexico. In contrast, China asserts that it has taken significant measures to combat the illicit drug trade and plans to challenge the tariffs at the World Trade Organization.

The Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson reiterated China's willingness to engage in dialogue to resolve the issue. However, he stressed that China would take necessary actions to protect its rights and interests against what it perceives as unilateralist "bullying."
