China Experiences Third Consecutive Year of Population Decline

China's population decreased by almost 1.4 million to 1.408 billion in 2024, marking the third consecutive year of decline, according to government reports. Japan's population has declined by 3 million since 2008, reaching a record low of 730,000 births in 2023, as per official statistics. Italy experienced a drop in births below 400,000 for the first time since the 19th century, attributed to factors such as low wages and childcare challenges, as reported by demographers. South Korea's population saw a slight increase of 0.2% in 2023, driven by a 10% rise in foreign residents, according to Yonhap News Agency.
