Chinese battery giant CATL has reopened its lithium lepidolite mine and refinery in Jiangxi province, as confirmed by a spokesperson for its refinery joint venture partner Lopal Tech on Tuesday. The spokesperson attributed the resumption of operations to CATL's successful efforts in reducing production costs at both facilities.

The operations are currently yielding over 2,000 tons of lithium carbonate, with plans to increase production to surpass 3,000 tons per month going forward. The reopening of CATL's mine in Jiangxi, a significant source of lithium supply in China, has played a vital role in meeting the increasing demand for the battery material in the country.

Following reports of the mine's restart, lithium miner shares in Australia experienced a decline on Tuesday. The most-traded November lithium carbonate futures contract on the Guangzhou Futures Exchange concluded at 77,300 yuan ($10,578) per metric ton, marking a 1.6% decrease from Monday's closing price.

CATL's stock price on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange finished at 251.8 yuan on Tuesday, showing a 2.6% drop from the previous day's close.
