Carney Indicates Willingness for Call with Trump, But Insists on Canada's Terms

New Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed his willingness to speak with the U.S. President, emphasizing that such discussions would take place "on our terms as a sovereign country."

Carney became the leader of the ruling Liberal Party on March 9, automatically assuming the role of prime minister. While calls with the U.S. president typically occur shortly after a new prime minister takes office, the two leaders have yet to connect.

"I'm available for a call, but we will talk on our terms as a sovereign country, not as he may imply," Carney stated to reporters in Newfoundland during the second day of the general campaign.

Carney criticized the President's threats regarding Canadian exports and remarks about annexing Canada, describing them as unhelpful. He also noted that he assumed the President was waiting to see the election outcome before reaching out to the winner.
