Car Manufacturers Fined £461 Million for Collusion

Ten carmakers, including BMW and Ford, will pay £77.7 million in fines for violating competition law related to vehicle recycling, according to the Competition and Markets Authority. The European Commission imposed fines of approximately €458 million on 15 major car manufacturers for colluding on vehicle recycling information. These manufacturers illegally agreed not to compete on the recyclability of their cars and refrained from paying others to recycle scrap vehicles, as reported by the CMA. Mercedes-Benz is exempt from fines due to its self-reporting under the CMA's leniency policy.
