Canadian Ministers Describe Constructive Meeting with Lutnick on Tariffs

Canadian ministers emerged from a lengthy high-level meeting between Canada and the United States on Thursday without immediate relief from U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports. However, they described the discussion as constructive and confirmed that talks would persist.

Canadian Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, alongside Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, addressed reporters at the Canadian embassy in Washington. They discussed economic and national security concerns with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, emphasizing the potential impact of the tariffs on both countries.

Champagne stated, "I would say that we leave Washington, I think, better equipped in making sure that we can defend Canadian interests." LeBlanc mentioned that both parties agreed to continue the dialogue.
