Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly announced on Monday that she plans to engage with allies to address the tariffs threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump. Joly mentioned that she will communicate with the foreign ministers of Britain, Mexico, and some members of the European Union to collaborate effectively. "We need to be very practical when working with our European and British counterparts in this matter," said Joly. She also highlighted ongoing discussions in European capitals regarding potential responses to tariffs. Trump has warned of imposing 25% tariffs on all Canadian imports unless border security measures are tightened. Joly confirmed Canada's readiness to retaliate with countermeasures if tariffs are imposed and mentioned her upcoming trip to Washington for discussions with officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
