Canada has announced that it will impose a 25% tariff on $155 billion worth of U.S. goods beginning Tuesday if President Trump's administration proceeds with its proposed tariffs on Canadian goods, stated Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday.
Trudeau explained that tariffs on $30 billion of U.S. goods will be enforced immediately, with tariffs on the remaining $125 billion to follow in 21 days. He emphasized, "Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn. Should U.S. tariffs persist, we are actively discussing non-tariff measures with provinces and territories."
