On Friday, Brazil's government announced Nigeria's admission as a partner country in the BRICS multinational bloc of nations. Brazil, the current president of the bloc in 2025, highlighted Nigeria's commitment to "strengthening cooperation in the Global South and reforming global governance." Brazil's Foreign Ministry, also known as Itamaraty, stated, "With the 6th largest global population and the largest in Africa, alongside being one of the largest economies on the continent, Nigeria's interests align with those of other BRICS members." Nigeria now joins the BRICS alongside eight other nations from Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia.
