The US Department of State informed Congress about a proposed $8 billion (£6.4 billion) arms sale to Israel, as confirmed by a US official to the BBC.
The arms package, which requires approval from House and Senate committees, includes missiles, shells, and other munitions.
This announcement comes a little over two weeks before President Joe Biden's term ends. Despite calls to halt military assistance to Israel due to civilian casualties in the Gaza conflict, Washington has stood firm in its support.
In August, the US greenlit a $20 billion sale of fighter jets and military gear to Israel.
The upcoming shipment is said to involve air-to-air missiles, Hellfire missiles, artillery shells, and bombs, according to the US official.
A source familiar with the deal informed the BBC that "The president has emphasized Israel's right to defend its citizens in accordance with international and humanitarian laws and to deter aggression from Iran and its proxies.
"We are committed to providing the necessary tools for Israel's defense."
President Biden has consistently described US backing of Israel as unwavering.
The US remains Israel's top arms supplier, aiding in the development of one of the world's most advanced militaries.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) reports that the US accounted for 69% of Israel's major arms imports between 2019 and 2023.
This arms shipment is among several initiatives by the Biden administration as it nears the end of its term, aiming to solidify its foreign policy legacy.
It is expected to be the final arms sale to Israel before Biden exits the White House on January 20, 2025, following the inauguration of his successor, Donald Trump.
President-elect Trump has expressed intentions to conclude foreign conflicts and reduce US engagement, sentiments he also conveyed during his election campaign.
Although a staunch supporter of Israel, Trump encouraged swift closure of Israel's military operation in Gaza.
Israel initiated the campaign to eliminate Hamas in response to an unprecedented attack by the group on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in around 1,200 deaths and the capture of 251 individuals.
Since then, over 45,580 people have lost their lives in Gaza, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry.
