"Annual Household Energy Bills Set to Increase to £1,849 from April"

Energy bills for a typical household are expected to increase to £1,849 per year starting April 1, a 6% rise from the previous £1,738. Jonathan Brearley, the chief executive of Ofgem, attributed this increase primarily to a surge in wholesale prices, which make up about 78% of the total rise. The government intends to extend financial aid for energy bills next winter, benefiting one in five families in the UK. Simon Francis of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition urged for £13.2 billion in assistance to be allocated to support vulnerable households affected by escalating energy expenses.
