Train fares in England and Wales are set to rise by approximately 4.6% starting this Sunday, according to a report by the Government. Silviya Barrett from the Campaign for Better Transport has expressed concern that the fare increase will disproportionately affect rail passengers who commute to work. The cap on regulated fare increases is determined by the UK, Scottish, and Welsh governments, with this year's rise fixed at 4.6% in England and Wales. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander highlighted that this marks the smallest increase in three years and is below the growth rate of average earnings.
